We serve a group of incredible women. They are strong, they are many, and they are tremendously underserved. They are the women who have made the gut-wrenching choice to place a child for adoption. They are a vital and often neglected part of the adoption triad that includes the children they placed and the parents they chose. They are Birth Mothers.Please take a moment to briefly consider what life would be like for you, had you placed a child for adoption. In addition to the heart breaking “goodbye” very shortly after birth, every birthday, every “first”, every milestone from the blessing or christening to baptisms and graduations, from their first love to their wedding and first baby… each event is filled with a longing and loneliness and pain that is difficult to articulate. Birth Mothers do not stop loving their child; they do not stop thinking about their child. And neither could you.Life After Placement is a Utah-based non-profit dedicated to helping Birth Mothers find their footing and receive support throughout their lives and the lives of the children they placed. Since early 2016, we have helped hundreds of Birth Mothers receive support by helping them own their story, receive professional help, and support other Birth Mothers in the journey. Through support groups, helping to identify and connect with mental health professionals trained in post-placement support, and other resources, we are committed to strengthening Birth Mothers’ mental health and giving them the tools to move forward.
