Event EndedINTERNATIONAL EDUCATION COLLOQUIUM PPD MIRI 2024

Introduction:

From 1 to 2 December 2020, the Miri District Education Office (PPD) organized the National Level Education e-Colloquium. This e-Colloquium had a significant impact on 60 schools in the Miri district as each school sent presenters to participate in the e-Colloquium. A total of 89 action research studies were presented, and 49 of these action research outcomes were selected to be compiled into the National Level Education e-Colloquium 2020 Action Research Collection. The cultivation of action research is increasingly gaining traction among teachers in the Miri District Education Office. Teachers are able to exchange ideas and share experiences not only in teaching and learning but also in school management.

Therefore, the Miri District Education Office formed the Action Research Task Force, and all 61 schools in the Miri District Education Office appointed a teacher as the Action Research Coordinator starting from early 2021. The Road to Colloquium program commenced in February 2021 with several sharing sessions and guidance by district-level trainers. With the growing interest of teachers in action research and the enhancement of awareness of action research alongside Middle Leaders (ML) guided by School Improvement Specialist Coaches (SISC+), the Miri District Education Officer proposed expanding the Education e-Colloquium to an international level in 2022.

Subsequently, from 22 to 24 February 2022, the Miri District Education Office organized the International Level Education e-Colloquium online. This e-Colloquium made a significant impact as presentations were not only from Malaysia but also from China, Indonesia, and Singapore. A total of 120 action research studies were presented, and 25 action research outcomes were selected to be compiled into the Proceedings Of Action Research International Education E-Colloquium 2022.

The organization of the International Education Colloquium 2024 will serve as a platform for educators to generate more comprehensive, creative, and effective understanding and ideas, particularly among educators in Malaysia with educators from abroad.

Furthermore, the organization of this colloquium is also in line with the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM) wave 3 (2021-2025), which focuses on fostering a culture of professional excellence exemplified by peer-guided professionalism, where teachers and school leaders guide each other, share best practices, and ensure that peers are responsible for meeting professional standards. Action research produced by educators is one of the evidences of the teaching professionalism culture that should be highlighted and shared through colloquia that can attract participation from educators worldwide.

The organization of the International Education Colloquium 2024 enables the Miri District Education Office to build networks with NGOs and corporations, fostering continuous collaboration in terms of academics, skills, expertise, and finances. With close relationships and collaboration with external parties, the Miri District Education Office will be able to achieve strategic objectives through collaborative initiatives and diverse resources.
